Moilliet, Louis
Moilliet, Louis (1880–1962). Swiss painter and designer of stained glass. He was born in Berne, where he was a schoolfriend of Paul Klee, and studied in Worpswede, Weimar, and Stuttgart. In 1911 he introduced Klee to the Blaue Reiter circle, and in 1914 he visited Tunisia with Klee and Macke. He spent the First World War in Switzerland, after which he travelled extensively, especially in the Mediterranean. As a painter he worked mainly in watercolour in a style influenced by Orphism. The same feeling for colour comes out in the stained-glass windows he designed for Swiss churches, notably the Lucaskirche at Lucerne (1934–6) and the Zwinglikirche at Winterthur (1943–4). His work is well represented in Swiss museums.
