Louis Mitchell Coxetter
Louis Mitchell Coxetter , 1818–73, Confederate privateersman and blockade-runner, b. Nova Scotia. He settled in Charleston, S.C., and in the Civil War he captained the ship Jefferson Davis, which captured 10 prizes in 1861. When, because of the increasing effectiveness of the Union blockade, profiteering declined, Coxetter turned to blockade-running, at which he was equally successful. |

Field, Joseph M.
Field, Joseph M. (1810–56), St. Louis actor, theatrical manager, and journalist, whose newspaper and magazine sketches were collected in The Drama in Pokerville (1847). Not one of his many plays was published, but he is remembered for such tales of frontier humor as Mike Fink, the Last of the Boatmen.
