Lorain
Lorain , city (1990 pop. 71,245), Lorain co., N Ohio, on Lake Erie at the mouth of the Black River; inc. 1834. Once an important ore-shipping point, Lorain has shipyards, steelworks, automobile-assembly plants, and commercial fisheries. Its port activities, once integral to the city's economy, have declined in bulk and importance over the years. Power equipment, building materials, navigation equipment, and toys are among the manufactures. Lorain also has numerous boating facilities. |

Lorain
Lorain, Ohio/USA Black River, Charlestown First settled in 1807 as a trading post in 1807 called Black River, it was incorporated as the village of Charlestown in 1836. When becoming a city in 1874, it was renamed after the county of Lorain which itself had been named after the province of Lorraine in France.
