local colour
local colour. The ‘true’ colour of an object or area seen under normal daylight, without regard for the modifying effect of such factors as distance or reflections from other objects. Thus, the local colour of a typical grass field is green, although at a certain distance it may appear blue because of atmospheric perspective.
