Lewis Gaylord Clark

Lewis Gaylord Clark 1808?-1873, American editor and writer, b. near Syracuse, N.Y. He was the editor (1834-60) of the Knickerbocker Magazine and made it a leading literary publication of its day. He wrote Knickerbocker Sketch-Book (1845) and Knick-Knacks from an Editor's Table (1852). His twin brother, Willis Gaylord Clark, 1808?-1841, was coeditor (1834-41) of the Knickerbocker. His Literary Remains (1844) includes the sketches and verse that he contributed to the magazine.

Clark, Lewis Gaylord

Clark, Lewis Gaylord (1808–73), edited The Knickerbocker Magazine (1834–61), the outstanding literary periodical of its time. He edited The Knickerbocker Sketch‐Book (1845), which contained contributions by Irving, and wrote Knick‐Knacks from an Editor's Table (1852), an urbane, quietly humorous work.

Willis Gaylord Clark (1808–41), his twin, was co‐editor of The Knickerbocker Magazine. His humorous contributions were collected as Literary Remains …Including the Ollipodiana (1844). The Letters of the brothers was published in 1940.
