Segall, Lasar (b Vilna [now Vilnius], 7 July 1891; d São Paulo, 2 Aug. 1957). Lithuanian-born painter and graphic artist who settled in Brazil in 1923 (following a visit in 1912) and became a Brazilian citizen. Before and after the first journey to Brazil he lived in Germany (mainly Berlin and Dresden), where he developed an Expressionist style. He was the first to exhibit Expressionist pictures in Brazil and had a great influence on younger painters there.
