Larne

Larne

Larne , town (1991 pop. 18,224) and district, NE Northern Ireland, on an inlet of the North Channel. The town is a seaport and a tourist center. Metal ores, beef, and potatoes are exported from Larne; among the industrial products are electrical equipment, paper, and linen. Limestone is quarried nearby. In 1315, Edward Bruce landed at Larne.

Larne (Latharna) Antrim. ‘Descendants of Lathar’. According to legend, Lathar was one of the 25 sons of Úgaine Mór (Hugony), a pre-Christian king of Ireland.
