Lady Caroline Lamb

Lamb, Lady Caroline

Lamb, Lady Caroline (1785–1828), daughter of the third earl of Bessborough, married William Lamb, afterwards second Viscount Melbourne. In 1812, shortly after her marriage, she became infatuated with Byron, and about the same time began to show signs of mental instability. Her first novel, Glenarvon (1816), is a wild Gothic extravaganza, in which she is cast as the dashing Calantha and Byron as the fated Glenarvon.
