KwaNdebele
KwaNdebele, South Africa ‘Place of the Ndebele’ from kwa, a Zulu word signifying ‘at’ or ‘in (the place of)’. A former homeland established in 1979 for the Transvaal Ndebele people after they had been evicted from Bophuthatswana. In 1981 it became a self‐governing national state, but was reincorporated into South Africa in 1994. The Ndebele were previously known as the Matabele. See Matabeleland.
