Krugersdorp, Gauteng/South Africa Founded in 1887 with the discovery of gold in the area as ‘Kruger's Village’ from Afrikaans dorp, it is named after the fiercely anti‐British Paul Kruger (1825–1904), President of the Transvaal (or South African Republic) (1883–1900), who started the Boer War with the UK in 1899.
