Kohāt
Kohāt, North‐West Frontier/Pakistan The new town lies some way from the old town of Kohāt which is believed to have been founded by, and named after, a 14th‐century Buddhist raja called Kohāt. Additionally, Kōhāt in Persian means ‘mountains’ from the plural of kōh or kūh ‘mountain’; the town is located in hilly rugged terrain.

Kohat
Kohat , town (1981 pop. 55,832), N Pakistan, on the Kohat Toi River. The town, enclosed by a wall with 14 gates, is noted for its cotton fabrics and lungis. Kohat contains a 19th-century British fort built on the site of an old Sikh fortress. |
