Karl Isakson

Isakson, Karl

Isakson, Karl (b Stockholm, 16 Jan. 1878; d Copenhagen, 19 Feb. 1922). Swedish painter, active mainly in Denmark. He worked in Paris 1905–7 and 1911–14 and was one of the first Scandinavians to show the influence of Cézanne and the Cubists. His work had considerable influence on other Scandinavian artists, although it was virtually unknown in Sweden until 1922, when an exhibition was held in Stockholm soon after his death. He painted still-lifes, nudes, and landscapes, and towards the end of his life visionary religious subjects, which he treated with the same regard for structure.
