McElroy, Joseph
McElroy, Joseph (1930– ),born in Brooklyn, after an A.B. from Williams and Ph.D. from Columbia has been a professor of English at Queens College, CUNY (1964– ). His writing is A Smuggler's Bible (1966), about adventures of a young antiquarian bookseller; Hind's Kidnap (1969), a man's inquiry into a seizure that he suffered as a boy; Ancient History (1971); Lookout Cartridge (1974), concerning a film maker caught in sinister situations; Plus (1977), about the relationship of a brain to an engineer dying of a radiation burn; Ship Rock (1980); Women and Men (1987), a lengthy treatment of the lives of a man and woman unconnected except that they live in the same apartment building; and The Letter Left to Me (1988), a short account of a 15‐year‐old boy who receives a letter from his father who has just committed suicide.
