White, Joseph Blanco
White, Joseph Blanco (1775–1841), born in Seville, a Catholic priest. He abandoned the priesthood and came to England in 1810. He studied at Oxford and became an Anglican cleric, and the friend of Whately, Newman, Pusey, and Froude. His publications include various ecclesiastical works, and translations of Paley's Evidences. Coleridge declared his sonnet ‘Night and Death’ (1828) ‘the finest …sonnet in our language’.
