John o'Groats

John o'Groats, Scotland/UK A village named after John o'Groat (or Jan de Groot), a Dutchman who settled here with royal protection in the 15th century and established a ferry to the Orkney Islands in 1496. To travel from John o'Groats to Land's End means to cover the entire length of Great Britain, about 870 miles (1 400 km).
