White, John
White, John (1867–1951), Scottish Church leader. An original member from the Church of Scotland of the committee appointed in 1909 to negotiate a possible union with the United Free Church of Scotland, he was the dominant leader of the movement which led to the union of 1929. He was instrumental in promoting legislation in Parliament which preserved the status of the Church of Scotland as the established Church but gave it freedom to govern its affairs independently of Parliament and the courts.

White, John
White, John (1575–1648), English Puritan clergyman, did not emigrate to the American colonies but helped found both the Dorchester Company (1623) and the Massachusetts Bay Company (1629). His tract The Planters Plea (1630) shows the economic and social value of emigration and furnishes a pleasant account of the colony's early history.
