Home, John

Home, John (1722–1808), Scottish minister, later became secretary to Bute and tutor to the prince of Wales. His friends included Hume, Adam Smith, W. Collins, and W. Robertson. His romantic tragedy Douglas was performed with much success at Edinburgh in 1756 where it caused violent controversy from those who believed it improper for a minister to write for the stage.
