Gauden, John
Gauden, John (1605–62), Bp. successively of Exeter (1660) and Worcester (1662). In the early days of the Civil War his sympathies were with Parliament, but later he changed his views. He published controversial works against the Puritans and was probably the author of the Eikon Basilike (q.v.).

John Gauden
John Gauden , 1605–62, English clergyman. He claimed to have written the Eikon Basilike (1649), a tract in defense of Charles I. After the Restoration, Gauden was bishop of Exeter (1660–62) and of Worcester (1662). |
