Jo
Jo ♀, ♂ Usually a girl's name, a short form of Joanna, Joanne, Jody, or Josephine, sometimes used independently or in combination with other names, for example Nancy Jo and Jo Anne (see Joanne). Occasionally it is a boy's name, a variant spelling of Joe. Famous female bearers include the American female pop singer Jo Stafford (b. 1917) and the British politician Jo Grimond (originally Joseph Grimond, 1913–93).

Jō (Jap., ‘meditation’). Buddhist concentration and meditation; also (a different Jap. word), a vehicle, i.e. a means of carrying people to salvation or nirvāna; jōjō is the highest teaching.
