Jedburgh teams
Jedburgh teams, groups of three uniformed men—an Englishman, an American, and a Frenchman—dropped into France at the time of the Normandy landings on 6 June 1944 (see OVERLORD), and for the following ten weeks. Drawn from SOE and the Office of Strategic Services, they acted as a staff for local French resistance units. They helped to ensure that the French resistance was co-ordinated in the best interests of Allied strategy, and that it was kept supplied with arms. Each team comprised two officers and one sergeant wireless operator who were trained leaders in guerrilla tactics, and in demolition. In all, 93 teams were dropped, 21 of whose members were killed. Jedburgh teams were also used, with Dutch personnel, during MARKET-GARDEN in September 1944 to co-ordinate the efforts of the Dutch resistance, and in Norway.
