Mangan, James Clarence
Mangan, James Clarence (1803–49), Irish poet, published under various pseudonyms prose and verse in newspapers and periodicals and is chiefly remembered for a few powerful ballads and songs including ‘Dark Rosaleen’ and ‘The Nameless One’ (‘Roll forth, my song, like the rushing river’). He died of malnutrition in extreme destitution. His tragic career suggested part of the theme of B. Moore's The Mangan Inheritance (1979).

James Clarence Mangan
James Clarence Mangan , 1803-49, Irish poet. He spent most of his life as a clerk, eventually slipping into alcoholism and opium addiction. His reputation rests on his English renderings of Gaelic poems, such as the excellent "Dark Rosaleen."
