Izumo
Izumo , city (1990 pop. 82,679), Shimane prefecture, SW Honshu, Japan, on the Hii River. It is an important railway and road hub and stock-raising center. Its smaller industries include silk manufacture, woodworking, and brewing. The Izumo Taisha, Shinto's oldest and second most important shrine, is to the northwest. |
