A major steel-milling, armaments, machinery, motor vehicles, and metallurgical center, Izhevsk has ironworks dating back to 1760. Institutes studying Udmurt literature and history make Izhevsk the cultural center of the Udmurt Republic. |

Izhevsk
Izhevsk, Urdmurtiya Republic/Russia Ustinov Founded in 1760 as an ironworks and named after the River Izh. It was renamed in 1984–90 after Marshal Dmitry Ustinov (1908–84), Soviet minister of defence (1976–84).
