Ismene ♀ Borne in classical mythology by a daughter of Oedipus. After Oedipus has blinded himself on discovering that he has killed his father and that Jocasta is not only his wife but also his mother, Ismene deserts her father, while Antigone, her sister, stays with him and supports him. In spite of its grim associations, the name has been used occasionally in modern times.
