Invention of the Cross

Invention of the Cross

Invention of the Cross. According to legend the crosses of Christ and the two robbers were found (Lat. inventae) by St Helena, that of Christ being identified by a miracle. In the Greek Church the Finding of the Cross was originally commemorated on 14 Sept., now the feast of the Exaltation of the Cross. In the W. it was commemorated on 3 May, until the feast was suppressed in the RC Church in 1961.
