International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources

International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) or World Conservation Union, international organization founded in 1948 to encourage the preservation of wildlife, natural environments, and living resources. Its members include private individuals, nongovernmental organizations and governments. The IUCN promotes research in the preservation of threatened species, ecology , sustainable development, and environmental law, education, and training.

International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) An international, independent organization, founded in 1948, with headquarters in Switzerland, which promotes and initiates scientifically based conservation measures. Its members include more than 450 government agencies and conservation organizations in more than 100 countries, and it works closely with United Nations agencies. It publishes data books listing endangered species, and in 1980 it published the World Conservation Strategy in collaboration with the UN Environment Programme, the World Wide Fund for Nature, the Food and Agriculture Organization, and UNESCO.
