Imperia
Imperia, Liguria/Italy Established in 1923 by the merger of Porto Maurizio, Oneglia, and a few villages, the new town's name came from a stream called Impero ‘Empire’ which flows close to Oneglia. The stream was renamed in the 18th century as a result of the wars between France and the Austrian Empire.

Imperia
Imperia , city (1991 pop. 40,708), capital of Imperia prov., Liguria, NW Italy, on the Ligurian Sea. Located on the Italian Riviera, it is a port and winter resort. The cathedral (1780–1832) dominates the modern city. Andrea Doria , the admiral and statesman, was born there. |
