Idler

Idler,
1. a series of papers contributed by Dr Johnson to the Universal Chronicle: or Weekly Gazette between 15 April 1758 and 5 April 1760. These papers are shorter and lighter than those of the Rambler, but their general character is the same. They include the well-known sketches of Dick Minim, the critic, of Mr Sober (the author himself), Jack Whirler (Newbery the publisher), and Tom Restless.

2. a monthly journal edited by J. K. Jerome and Robert Barr, 1892–1911.
