Holyhead

Holyhead (Caergybi) Wales/UK Haliheved, Holyhede ‘Holy Headland’ from the Old English hālig and hēafod ‘headland’. On Holy Island off the coast of the Isle of Anglesey, the name refers to a headland to the west. The Welsh name means ‘Cybi's Fort’ from caer and Cybi, a 6th‐century saint who founded the monastery here.

Holyhead (Caergybi) Angl. Haliheved 1315, Holyhede 1395. ‘Holy headland’. OE hālig + hēafod. The Welsh name means ‘Cybi's fort’ (Welsh caer), from the Celtic saint to whom the church is dedicated.
