Hogen
Hogen (Chin., Fa-yen-tsung; Jap., Hōgen-shū). Chʾan/Zen school, one of the goke-shichishū, the revered early schools. It was founded by Hsüan-sha Shih-pei (Jap., Gensha Shibi), so that it was originally called Hsüan-sha. But Fayen Wen-i, in the next generation, far exceeded Hsüan-sha, so that the school became known as Fa-yen (Jap., Hōgen).
