Milman, Henry Hart
Milman, Henry Hart (1791–1868), Dean of St Paul's from 1849. His History of the Jews (1829) aroused criticism by the way in which it handled the OT narrative; it treated the Jews as an oriental tribe and attached little weight to the miraculous. His well-known History of Latin Christianity (1855) fostered intelligent study of medieval life and institutions.
