Henry Crabb Robinson

Robinson, Henry Crabb

Robinson, Henry Crabb (1775–1867), was a solicitor and later a barrister, but is chiefly remembered for his diaries, reading-lists, and letters, first collected in 1869, which provide valuable information about the writers and events of his time. He was the friend of Wordsworth, Coleridge, Lamb, Hazlitt, and later Carlyle. He did much to popularize German culture in England. For many years he wrote for The Times, at home and abroad, and he was one of the founders of both University College London, and the Athenaeum club.
