Hellfire Club
Hellfire Club (1745–63) A notorious English society that met in the ruins of Medmenham Abbey in Buckinghamshire. It was founded by Sir Francis Dashwood in 1745, and its members reputedly indulged in debauchery and in the mocking of organized religion by the performance of blasphemous ‘black masses’. Its membership included many politicians.
