Williams, Heathcote
Williams, Heathcote (1941– ), poet, actor, performance poet and playwright, born in Cheshire. He is perhaps best known for his play AC/DC (1970), a powerful innovative piece about the effects of the new technology and the media (‘psychic capitalism’), and for his three ‘ecological epics’ of poems with pictures, Whale Nation (1988), Falling for a Dolphin (1989), and Sacred Elephant (1989). Other plays include The Speakers (1964), Hancock's Last Half Hour (1977), and The Immortalist (1978).
