Hawkesbury, Australia, Canada 1. Australia (New South Wales): a river, named in its upper course the Wollondilly, and then lower down the Warragamba; after joining the Grose, it becomes the Hawkesbury, named after Robert Banks Jenkinson (1770–1828), 2nd Earl of Liverpool and Baron Hawkesbury, British secretary for war and the colonies (1809–12) and prime minister (1812–27).2. Canada (Ontario): founded in 1798 and named after Charles Jenkinson (1727–1808), 1st Earl of Liverpool and Baron Hawkesbury, secretary at war (1778–82) during the American War of Independence (1775–83).
