Halesowen

Halesowen , city (1991 pop. 57,533), Dudley metropolitan district, central England. Listed in the Domesday Book as Hala, Halesowen manufactures machine tools, electronic equipment, and bricks. The city also has steel and iron plants. Halesowen was the birthplace of the printer William Caslon and the poet William Shenstone .

Halesowen, England/UK Hala, Hales Ouweyn ‘Owen's Corners of Land’ from the plural of the Old English halh ‘corner, or nook, of land’ and the name of the Welsh Prince Owen, who became Lord of Hales in 1204 and occupied the manor.
