Great Alfold

Great Alfold

Great Alfold (Nagy Alföld), Hungary ‘Great Plain’ from nagy ‘great’, ala ‘below’ or ‘under’, and föld ‘land’ or ‘ground’. It is a huge, fertile lowland in south‐eastern Hungary that spreads into Croatia, Serbia, and Romania.
