Germiston , city (1991 pop. 171,541), Gauteng, NE South Africa, on the Witwatersrand . The chief industries are gold mining and processing and the manufacture of liquid oxygen; other chemicals, machinery, textiles, and clothing are also produced. Germiston is South Africa's most important railroad hub. |

Germiston, Gauteng/South Africa Elandsfontein Founded in 1887 and renamed in 1904 after the Scottish birthplace of John Jack, one of two gold prospectors, who helped develop the settlement.
