Georg Muffat

Georg Muffat , 1645-1704, German organist and composer. Muffat studied in Italy with Arcangelo Corelli and Bernardo Pasquini. He also spent six years in Paris studying Jean Baptiste Lully's music. In 1690 he became kapellmeister at Passau. His compositions advanced the concerto grosso form and the art of writing for the organ.

Muffat, Georg (b Mégève, Alsace, 1653; d Passau, 1704). Ger. composer and organist. Org. of Strasbourg Cath. until 1675, to Bishop of Salzburg c.1687. Org. and later Kapellmeister to Bishop of Passau from 1690. Wrote many org. works, concerti grossi, etc.
