Gaspé
Gaspé, Quebec/Canada The origin of the name is disputed. It may come from the Christian name of the Portuguese explorer Gaspar Corte‐Real who went down the York River at the mouth of which the city lies c.1500; or it may come from a Native American word gespeg ‘end of the world’. However, it lies at the mouth of the York River, not the source.
