Gangtok
Gangtok, Sikkim/India Situated at a height of 5 600 ft (1 700m), the name means ‘Top of the Hill’ from the Tibetan gang ‘hill’ and tok ‘top’ or ‘peak’. It was the capital of the Kingdom of Sikkim until the monarchy was abolished in 1975. Sikkim was annexed by India in 1976.
