Gades
Gades, now Cadiz, an independent state founded by the Phoenicians in 1100 bc and occupied by the Carthaginians around 500 bc. It allied itself with Rome during the Second Punic War (206 bc). The name occurs in the many histories and accounts of the port up to the 14th century. Read more
