Fulvia

Fulvia

Fulvia ♀ From the feminine form of the old Roman family name Fulvius, a derivative of Latin fulvus ‘dusky, tawny’ (ultimately akin to flavus; compare Flavia). The name does not seem to have been much used among early Christians, and there are no saints Fulvia or Fulvius. In classical times its most famous bearer was the wife of Mark Antony, who opposed Octavian by force on her husband's behalf while he was in Egypt.

Fulvia

Fulvia , d. 40 BC Roman matron. She was wife, in turn, of Publius Clodius , Quintus Scribonius Curio, and (44 BC) Marc Antony , to whom she remained completely loyal. She had been attacked (in the Philippics ) by Cicero, and she pierced his tongue with a needle when his head was brought to Rome (43). She led a revolt in Antony's interest against Augustus. Her forces were defeated at Perusia (40 BC), and she died at Sicyon.
