Fraserburgh

Fraserburgh

Fraserburgh , town (1991 pop. 12,478), Aberdeenshire, NE Scotland, on the North Sea. It is one of Scotland's leading fishing ports. Herring and whitefish are caught. It was founded in 1570 by Sir Alexander Fraser, and the remains of his castle are at Kinnairds Head below a lighthouse.

Fraserburgh Aber. The toun and burghe of Faythlie, now callit Fraserburghe 1597. ‘Fraser's chartered town’. ME burh. Alexander Fraser, 7th Laird of Philorth, was granted a charter to raise the town of Faithlie into a burgh of barony here in 1546.

Fraserburgh, Scotland/UK Faithlie Originally a village, Faithlie was bought by the Fraser family in 1504 and became a chartered town in 1546. It was renamed Fraserburgh in 1592 after Alexander Fraser of Philorth.
