Frank Luther Mott

Frank Luther Mott 1886-1964, American author and professor of journalism, b. near What Cheer, Iowa. He directed (1927-42) the school of journalism at the State Univ. of Iowa and was dean (1942-51) of the school of journalism at the Univ. of Missouri. With John T. Frederick he edited and published (1925-30) the Midland. He then served (1930-35) as editor of Journalism Quarterly. His best-known works include American Journalism (rev. ed. 1950); The News in America (1952); and A History of American Magazines (4 vol., 1930-57), for which he was awarded (1939) the Pulitzer Prize in American history.

Mott, Frank Luther (1886–1964),professor and later dean of the School of Journalism at Missouri (1925–51). His books include Six Prophets out of the Middle West (1917); The Literature of Pioneer Life in Iowa (1923); A History of American Magazines (3 vols., 1930–38, Pulitzer Prize; vol. IV, 1957; vol. V, 1968); American Journalism (1941); Jefferson and the Press (1943); Golden Multitudes (1947), on American best sellers; and The News in America (1952).
