Trevisani, Francesco

Trevisani, Francesco (b Capodistria, nr. Trieste [now Cape of Istra, Slovenia], 9 Apr. 1656; d Rome, 30 July 1746). Italian painter, trained in Venice and active in Rome from about 1678. After the death of Maratta in 1713, he succeeded him as ‘the most famous, prosperous and prolific painter in Rome, with connections all over Europe’ ( Ellis Waterhouse). His output included frescos, altarpieces, devotional works, mythological scenes, and portraits, including several of British visitors. His style was similar to Maratta's, but sweeter and more colourful.

Trevisani, Francesco (1656–1746). Italian painter, trained in Venice and active in Rome from about 1678. After the death of Maratta in 1713, he succeeded him as ‘the most famous, prosperous and prolific painter in Rome, with connections all over Europe’ (Ellis Waterhouse).
