Fort Bliss
Fort Bliss a U.S. Army fort near El Paso, Texas. The present fort was occupied for the first time in 1893, by the 18th Infantry, and is one of the nation's major military installations. From 1848 to 1893, predecessors in five different locations stood near El Paso. The fort was named in 1854 for William Wallace Smith Bliss, a veteran of the Mexican War (1846–48) who served as a private secretary to President Zachary Taylor.
