Fleet Train
Fleet Train, term used to describe the supply and repair ships that supported Allied warships during the Pacific war. convoys would sail from the US west coast to an intermediate port where ships of the Fleet Train would load supplies, ammunition, and fuel and transport them to the ships in operational areas. When the British Pacific Fleet was formed at the end of 1944 (see Task Force 57) it had to rely heavily on American help, as sufficient merchant ships could not be spared from supplying the UK. By August 1945 the British Fleet Train comprised 92 ships. See also logistics.
