Fishguard
Fishguard (Abergwaun) Pemb. Fissigart 1200, Fissegard, id est, Aber gweun 1210. ‘Fish yard’. OScand. fiskr + garthr. A ‘fish yard’ is an enclosure for catching fish or for keeping them in when caught. The Welsh name means ‘mouth of the River Gwaun’ (OWelsh aber), the river name meaning ‘marsh’ (Welsh gwaun).

Fishguard
Fishguard (Abergwaun), Wales/UK Fissigart, Fissegard, Aber gwein ‘Fish Yard’ from the Old Scandinavian fiskr and garthr ‘yard’, possibly to indicate a place where fish were stored. The Welsh name means ‘(Place at the) Mouth of the (River) Gwaun’ from the Old Welsh aber and gwaun ‘marsh’.
