fibrinogen
fibrinogen One of the proteins of the blood plasma which is responsible for the clotting of blood. When prothrombin is activated to thrombin in response to injury, it converts fibrinogen to fibrin, which is deposited as strands that form the clot.

fibrinogen (fi-brin-ŏ-jĕn) n. a substance (see coagulation factors), present in blood plasma, that is acted upon by the enzyme thrombin to produce the insoluble protein fibrin in the final stage of blood coagulation.
